Noir

In my group of friends, I am notoriously known for wearing black all the time. Whether it be for a celebration, a formal event, dance practice, or just a casual day of hanging out. Black is my go to, it's the color I feel most comfortable and confident in, which is why I wear it excessively. I usually end up wearing black from head to toe... like literally head to toe because my hair is black too. I know that an all black outfit could look lazy or like it wasn't carefully put together, but wearing all black doesn't have to look boring or like effort was not put into it. When it comes to putting together an all black outfit, the key is to focus on texture. I will demonstrate and explain how I put together the all black outfit for this post and hopefully it will be of some use to you guys!

For the outfit I am wearing, both the polka dotted stockings and the sleeves of my top give off a soft and dainty vibe because they're thin & see-through. Nylon and lace always make my outfits a bit more girly, which is nice to wear on occasion, but if you know me, you know that I'm not much of a dainty person. I prefer to toughen up the look and to do so in this case, I added additional layers by putting on a pair of shorts from Zara that are very thick and structured. Lastly, I threw on my suede vest as a cherry on top.

If you prefer a softer look, you could replace the shorts and wear a skirt made mostly of cotton that hugs your body just right. Also, instead of wearing pleather booties with a thick heel, try suede booties with a thinner heel for a more sophisticated look.

To accessorize this look, I put on a pair of black and gold earrings (that you can't really see in these photos), my every day watch, a gold friendship bracelet from my bestie, then I stepped right into my heeled booties.

Denim x Denim

A winter inevitability: messy, tangled hair that looks like a it's been through a tornado. Most of it should be wrapped around a scarf and as the day goes on, clusters of strands gradually fall out of the loosely worn garment.

Everything I'm wearing here are staples to my closet. It's nothing fancy, but it says a lot about my preferred style this winter (straight up raggedy and lazy).

I recently got this scarf because I wanted to add some color into my wardrobe and I loved the extent of its saturation. Hopefully it won't fade away after a few washes cause it definitely won't feel the same without the richness of its color.

I pretty much wear these booties everyday, everywhere, to every occasion.

This watch too.

It grasped my attention because it was gender neutral according to Amazon. It's perfect for a girl who doesn't always dress feminine.

COMME BALDE x NYDIA

As a girl who finds so much joy and hope in fashion, it is always an inspiration to watch how others demonstrate their love for fashion as well. My friend Thierno is among one the people who have amazed me throughout the times we've interacted. The mere observation of his hard work and dedication is enough to motivate even the laziest person. He's a student from my college who hit me up on Instagram to discuss a collaboration (this shoot is it!), and I've been keeping updated with his collections ever since. He started his own fashion line at the age of 17 after working his first job at SoHo. Since then, he's been creating pieces that gears towards millennials. Watching him strive for success motivates me to keep on going and to try harder everything I do.

I can't stress it enough how his patchwork game is sooo point. Now, this crew neck is from his Spring 2015 collection. Check out his updated lookbook to see what's new.
Thierno, I am really proud of  everything you've accomplished throughout the years. You've worked hard to get to where you are now, and you deserve the recognition. Keep doin' you!

Faux Foliage

As soon as Phil and I found time to shoot, I immediately grabbed the newest, flashiest item from my tiny little dorm sized closet. When will I ever get to wear it if I don't wear it now?
I felt so luxurious in this vest, but it's definitely not something a college student could wear on a daily basis. Imagine walking into class with a faux fur vest, a gold chain, and heeled booties. Oh boy. My mom would yell "are you in college to get an education or to dress up?!"

I softened the look up with a white sweater and a flared pleather skirt.

I know, I know.. I always wear this bag. I would've preferred to wear another one with this look but there aren't many options for me to choose from, so this did the job!

You know you're a broke college student when everything you own is either from H&M or Forever 21. It's okay though- being financially limited gives you more opportunities to be more creative with your outfits. ;)

Tranquility

Being a typical college student, I'm always running around campus to get things done. If I'm not rushing to classes, then I'm working on assignments, studying, doing extra curricular activities, or taking my much needed naps.
I seldom find time to take in all that mother nature has to offer. It's easy to forget just how breathtakingly beautiful my surroundings are when I'm used to living a fast paced life. Maybe being busy all the time is a New York thing...

As nice as it is to be productive, everybody needs a break sometimes. Everyone needs to find time to do things that makes them happy. Consider it a form a release- it's necessary and it's healthy. It took a 5 minute drive for me to see a forrest left and right of the highway. It was so relaxing, and it really hit the spot.

I love the way the sun reflected on the pleather detailing of my knitted top. This outfit does look a bit bland in terms of color, but it plays a lot with the texture of leather. My sleeves, bag, and shoes are all matching in this aspect!
